Gout is caused by the buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints of the body, causing pain, swelling and inflammation. Symptoms usually begin in the joint of the first toe, which becomes intensely painful to touch or move. Attacks develop quickly, and typically occur in only one joint of the body at a time.

"When I first came to see Dr. Wonson, the first toe on my right foot was twice the size of the one on my left because of gout. I had already visited an internist, a podiatrist and a general practitioner to ease my conditionall without success. Dr. Wonson administered a series of acupuncture treatments, and taught me how to eat properly to control the disease. Thanks to Dr. Wonson, my gout has now subsided."

"After a hiking trip, I noticed that both my knees were swollen tremendously. I visited the emergency room at a nearby hospital, where uric acid was withdrawn from the affected areas. I was diagnosed with gout, and told I would be on medication for the rest of my life. I then made an appointment with Dr. Wonson to see if acupuncture could help my condition. Sure enough, after a couple of acupuncture sessions, the swelling has decreased tremendously, and I am no longer on medication."
