Founded on the Greek words "cheir" (hand) and "praxis" (practice), chiropractic is based on the understanding that good health depends on the normal functioning of the nervous system, including the spinea series of movable bones that stretches from the base of the skull to the middle of the hips. Thirty-one pair of spinal nerves extend from the brain down the spine and exit through a series of openings. The nerves then leave the spine and form a complicated network that influences every living tissue in the body. Reducing or eliminating irritation on the spinal nerves via the neck, spine and/or other extremities of the body can cause the body to operate more efficiently and effectively.
As a licensed chiropractor, Dr. Wonson helps the body heal itself by locating and adjusting the musculoskeletal area of the body that is functioning improperly. After conducting a thorough consultation and examination, Dr. Wonson works with each patient individually to prescribe a recommended course of chiropractic treatment specific to the cause of their symptoms. Treatments usually involve an "adjustment," a specific manipulation that applies pressure to the areas of the spine that are out of alignment, or do not move properly within their normal range of motion. To further promote good physical and mental health, Dr. Wonson also places an emphasis on nutrition and exercise programs, as well as lifestyle modifications that promote well-being and reduce stress.
